It took about three days longer to get round to writing this review than it should have, mainly because I haven’t been able to stop playing this game. As a certified petrol head, former racer and slot player, it is as if Net Entertainment created my perfect online slot game with this new title. It seriously ticks nearly all the boxes, high variance, great gameplay, awesome audio and stunning to look at.
The game has had very mixed reviews for a reason, the theme is only going to appeal to a certain demographic and high variance games are an acquired taste. If like me, you find these things appealing then Driven: Multiplier Mayhem, is going to be right up your street.

Theme & Game-play
If you haven’t seen the amazing Ryan Gosling film-noir ‘Drive’ yet, you need to, if you have, this game feels a lot like that film, albeit with a street-racing twist. A souped-up and modified Nissan GTR roars down an empty highway bridge against the backdrop of a night lit city, accompanied by a haunting audio track which is what really reminds me of the film. I can place a solid bet the game team was influenced by this.
Even by NetEnts standards, this is an amazing looking game, pure video game quality and the animations both in the base game and free spins bonus round are superb, the sound effects are good too and aren’t over the top or chintzy. It is because they have done such a good job with this, and only because of this, that I am forgiving them for putting pink wheels and neon lights on the matt black racer you are piloting.
Reel symbols are split between high and low value, the lucrative icons are the four street racers of the game and the car itself.
The low pay symbols are playing card icons, which is a little disappointing, however, they have metalized these and made them 3D, they do somehow fit the transparent reels very well.
The other symbol you will want to watch out for is the Scatter, a group of races in shadow form, as this triggers the free spins round where the majority of the big wins are to be had in this game. That doesn’t mean you can’t win big in the base game, as, if you can beat the variance, you can by utilising the multiplier wilds.
The Wilds system on this game is wonderful, every reel adds a corresponding multiplier value to the wild on its reel, so x1 for reel one, x2 for reel x2 etc, up to a max of x5 on reel five. When you combine them, things get spicy, as you can end up with a 120x multiplier total. I haven’t managed that yet, or hit a 5 wild – but check out my screenshot where I hit a 4x wild combo for nearly 200x times my bet value!
These wilds have a built in rev counter and when a big win hits the car has various animation sequences attached to it as part of the big win sequences, again, top job Net Ent.
The second way to win is to initiate the free spins round with three scatters. You then face off against each of the street racers, in turn, driving as the game’s heroine. Pick up 3 nitro symbols to advance to the next race and add an extra random wild to your reels in addition to extra spins.
The further you go, with the extra multiplier wilds in play on an overlay, the bigger the cash wins become. it’s a nice variation on a traditional spins round, and like everything else in this title, ties in perfectly with the racing slot game theme.
The cost of entry is low in this game so you can enjoy it without busting your wallet or have to actually race for pink slips, the minimum bet is just 0. 50 credits whilst the max is 75. 00, this may seem a little under par for a NetEnt Video slot, but bear in mind the Jackpot and you realise the max win is almost x5000 your bet, which is quite frankly nuts and does contribute to the volatility, which is equally massive. Of course, you could just play for free rather than real money, but that would take some of the fun out of it for me and this is clearly aimed at high rollers!
Massive payout potential, cool theme and awesome gameplay. The game does have its issues in terms of marketability, it isn’t going to be praised by everyone. You either have to love the style, theme, and game features or want the opportunity to win big. Personally, I’m off to take this slot game for another spin.
